“Again, the kingdom of I heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. (Matthew 13:44-46)”
As I look at many who say they have found it, I have to wonder at times if they have!
Here we see Jesus speaking in parables about the kingdom of Heaven; and by his account there is no doubt that there is a greater value in it versus anything in this world, even greater than our own physical life.
I often see how easy it is for many people to comprise and live their lives as if this life is more valuable or greater than the kingdom of God.
It’s one thing to enjoy this life that God has given us, it’s another when one choses to live this life against what God has said; there are things that people can participate in or do, that those who do them, it is said, “they will not enter the Kingdom of God.”
However, here Jesus describes also the character of those who find that great and precious treasure, they are willing to sell all that they have. They see or they get a revelation of the great exchange that is possible through the grace of God.
It’s not about buying or working one’s way into eternity, but rather it’s about going all out for God and letting nothing get in one’s way; nothing becomes more important than receiving the Kingdom of God.
As Jesus said, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. (Luke 9:24)”
The only way anyone would be able to so easily want to make this great exchange, is if they found something so extraordinary valuable or precious, that it is worth the trade. It becomes a no-brainer for those who actually get a revelation of this great exchange; so either many just haven’t gotten a hold of this revelation about this treasure and they’re not willing to make the exchange or they haven’t really found it.
Have you found it, the treasure so great and precious that you’re willing to make this great exchange?
